The Atlanta Braves will attempt to complete their second sweep of the season as they get ready to host the Toronto Blue Jays in the series’ finale set to be staged Thursday night at Sun Trust Park in Atlanta. The Braves won the first two games north of the border and will look to finish the broom job at home on Thursday.
The Jays came in into this series having won five straight but haven’t found an answer for the Braves’ sudden offensive outburst. Atlanta has scored 27 runs on 34 hits in this series and will look for more in the finale for certain as the Blue Jays showed their cockiness in Wednesday’s tilt with Jose Bautista again in the middle of it all.
Trailing 8-3 in the top of the eighth inning, Bautista was at it all over again with another bat flip after hitting his 6th homerun of the season. A few verbal exchanges thereafter as the much-maligned outfielder rounded the bases then for good measure, benches cleared but cooler heads prevailed. Needless to say, tonight’s game could be interesting.
Aside from the occasional meltdowns, Stroman has the potential to become a prosperous starter in this league that is if he can keep his wits about him from time to time. The 26-year old has registered six quality starts in 8 appearances this season which includes a pair of complete games but was also at the receiving end of two clunkers. He has been solid in his last two starts going a combined 12 innings with just 2 runs allowed on 14 hits and a win. The New York native will face the Braves for the first time in his career.
Teheran was on fire in his first three start of the season as he compiled a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings and a win but it all went downhill from there as he went 1-3 with 19 runs allowed in 21 1/3 innings for a lofty 8.02 ERA in four starts. The 26-year old righted the ship in his most recent outing by shutting out Miami for six innings on 3 hits in a 3-1 win back on May 13. The Columbia native is 0-0 with a 9.90 ERA in 3 career starts versus Toronto although he hasn’t face them in more than 2 years.
