MLB Betting Odds: Reds Try to End 6-Game Losing Streak at Phillies

The Cincinnati Reds are in a major funk, to the tune of a six-game losing streak in which the team has been outscored 39-15. Cincy looks to end the skid tonight behind ace pitcher Johnny Cueto as the Reds are in Philadelphia for the second of a four-game series. The Phils are -115 favorites on Bodog’s MLB odds.
The Reds’ pitching has been a problem of late – Opening Day starter Edinson Volquez, for example, was just sent down to the minors because he had been struggling badly. On Monday, the Phillies torched Bronson Arroyo for nine runs and 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings. It was Arroyo's worst start since allowing eight runs in three innings against San Diego on April 23, 2010. The Reds haven't lost this many in a row since dropping eight straight from July 28 to August 4, 2009. The one bright spot has been Jay Bruce, who hit a three-run homer Monday and is 11 for 18 with three homers in his last five games.
For Philly, Chase Utley returned after missing the first 46 games with a right knee injury. The five-time All-Star second baseman was 0 for 5, the only starter without a hit. The Phillies set a team high for runs scored in one inning this year when they pushed seven men across the plate in the third inning of their 10-3 win over the Reds on Monday. The seven runs were more than the Phillies scored in any two of their previous nine games, a span over which they managed to score a total of 15 runs, with no more than three runs in any single game.
Tonight the Reds look to end an eight-game losing streak to the Phillies and post their first victory at Citizens Bank Park since July 7, 2009 — as Cueto (2-1, 1.45 ERA) faces recently recalled Vance Worley (2-0, 1.13). Cueto is 1-2 with a 5.96 ERA in four starts against Philadelphia.
